The Best Night Cap
Hey Beautiful People! I hope you’ve started your day with a spirit of gratitude and excellence! More importantly, I hope you are ending your day with a spirit of gratitude and excellence. We’ve all heard the saying “how you start is how you finish” or “how you do one thing is how do everything.” Everything depends on context, so in this case — I want to stress to you the importance of having a night routine or go-to evening habits that will allow you reflect and be prepared going into the next day.
I’ve had days where I literally worked from sun up to sundown, conference calls, meetings, family stuff, working out and just trying to balance everything without feeling depleted by the time I officially say: Ok! I’m calling it a night. Well the truth is, there will be days where you are just pass out in the bed and some days where you managed your energy well enough throughout the day where you have time to actually fluff your pillow just before dozing off. Everyday is just different. I’ve accepted that. And I think you should to. Routines are necessary, but beating yourself every time you don’t get it right is not ok. When you are in the process of something or transitioning to a new way of living, you have to pair grace with accountability. I accept God’s grace every single day as I continue to level up in life. Here are a
Alexa, play Bedtime beats.
I’m all about setting the tone. Whether you like the sounds of the ocean or just soft, soothing instrumentals, pick a playlist that will trigger your brain to wind down. Try to avoid music with words because this will send a signal to your brain to process what you’re hearing vs. what you’re feeling. Now although I believe Drake has a song for very mood, this is the time to tap in with self and prepare for rest.
Wash off the day
Shower time is not only a physical thing but a mental thing as well. Use this time to reflect on your day. What emotions did you experience? What are proud about checking off your list? Did you get frustrated today? If so, why? This journey is all about you vs. YOU. After you reflect on your day, give yourself some words of affirmation. (This is all during shower btw) Move to the rhythm of the music and speak life into yourself.
Reality check your schedule
Ask yourself these questions: What or who wasted your time today What did you actually get done? What’s the ONE thing you need to get done tomorrow?
Plan your meals
We all may not have the capabilities to actually cook meals and have them sorted in nice black boxes, but you can at least think about what you’re going to eat. You will save yourself so much time and money if you take 2 minutes to decide what and when you’re going to eat.
Show love
The law of reciprocity is real. The more you give, the more you receive. Tell the people you value in your life that you love them and care for them. Send a quick text in your family group chat or send some money to a friend just because. Those small acts of kindness will go a long way.
Set your alarm
I’m sure you know this already, but set 3 if you have to. Choose the most annoying ring tone or your favorite song that put’s you in a “Let’s conquer the day” mood.
Thank God
Turn off all screens and appreciate all the blessings around you by thanking God for another day.
Now this is how you prepare for bed. You can throw in some essentials oils to make this night cap even better. Practicing these habits the best you can will allow you to wake up with the clarity and confidence you need to take continuous action towards your goals. The more we take care of self, the more self aware we are to approach each day with a growth mindset.
I love you and appreciate you so much! Keep grindin’. Keep showing up. The world needs you.
With love and grace,
Precious Azuree
