Success & Adulthood

Success & Adulthood

Hey Beautiful People!

Let’s talk: SUCCESS.

In grade school, your teachers or rather the public education system defined your definition of success. Whether it was a C+ or A+, letter grade was defined for you.

Adding on the other layer of expectation that was provided by your parents or caretakers, was your definition of success. If you fell short, there was extra credit or summer school available for you to make it up.

Cool.

You hit age 18 and you hear that freedom bell ring or you get that word from your people saying, “Oh, you grown now.” The phrase “oh you grown now” says a few things:

  • Make your own choices

  • Take care of yourself

  • Do you

Welcome to Adulthood: Ladies & Gentleman

Adulthood is where your success is defined by you.

When you turned 18, did you feel anxious, scared, excited, and/or empowered? Regardless of how you felt, you gradually became inundated with all these decisions.

Do I got to college? Do I get a job? Do I got to college and get a job? Do stay at home or get my own place? Do I go to the club or do I go to church? I’ll just do both.

Do I call in to work or do I work overtime? Should I go out to eat or cook at home? Should I text him or wait for him to text me? Should I date her or play with her? Am I happy? Am I sad? Am I good enough? Am I smart enough?

Brain overload. - I’m sure most of us were just trying to get to the end of the day.

All these thoughts paired with the influences around you, the people you hang out with, your work environment, your home environment, social media....you’re drained. Life can be so draining which then leads to you drifting which then leads you to the Devil’s playground.

Devil: Oh, you don’t know what you want? Let me tell you.

Devil: Oh, you don’t know how you feel? Let me whisper something in ya hear.

Devil: Oh, you’re broke? Let me paint this vision of lack and poverty in your mind so you stay comfortable right where you at.

We have to silence these thoughts and focus on what God promised us.

God: Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. Mark 11:43

God: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. Luke 11:9

God: For I know I have plans for you to prosper, not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11

Your faith + your desires + direction multiplied by discipline - distractions creates focus which then leads to success, but it all starts with your beliefs.

In order to focus:

  • You have to believe and trust God

  • You have to have vision

  • You have to seek clarity and counsel

  • You have to be committed to doing the work

  • You have to value your personal growth more than your distractions

Say this prayer:

Dear God,

I come to you with a spirit of gratitude and excellence. I set the atmosphere with the expectation of your abundant blessing and joy. I’m ready to get laser focused on our goals so I can finally experience my dreams as my reality. Instead of seeing myself as my current circumstance, I am now transferred into a spirit of clarity by the renewal of my mind. Where I’m weak, you make me strong. Thank you for your grace and everlasting love! Amen.

You’re stronger than you think. You are in control. You decide what your definition of success is every single day. Do not allow distractions to dominate your day.

Now go be great!

With love and grace,

Precious Azuree
